LA-based experimental pop auteur Julia Holter had an incredible 2015. Her beautiful offering Have You In My Wilderness cracked our list of the best albums of 2015, and we received a lot of insight on the creation of that album when we spoke to Holter.
It makes sense to linger on such a wondrous project for a while, so in
her first act of the new year, she revisits one of the many standouts
from the album.
“Everytime Boots” is a wandering, artful song with captivating
storytelling and instrumentation that magnifies the feelings the lyrics
evokes splendidly. Ramona Gonzalez’s matching clip is a more literal
take with Holter’s avant-garde sensibilities laced throughout. A cowboy
falls for a a cowgirl in a 99 cent store as Holter follows without his
knowledge. She throws a wrench in his romantic pursuits as the third
wheel and he eventually returns to his bedroom alone to sadly eat a
sandwich. The subtlety of Holter’s audacious, off-kilter songs is a
great underlying element in the video.
