Watch The First Teaser For Martin Scorsese & Mick Jagger’s ’70s Music Drama Vinyl

This is the world we live in: First we get a 15-second teaser of a teaser and, now that the teaser is here, it’s only a minute-long and expects you to wait around for the first full-length trailer. Ugh! But when the thing in question is the upcoming ’70s music-themed HBO series Vinyl — executive produced by Martin Scorsese, Mick Jagger, and Boardwalk Empire creator Terence Winter — that anticipation seems worth it. You can’t really tell much about how the series will actually play out, but it sure is exciting to watch — pretty much the epitome of “sex, drugs, and rock ‘n roll” in video form.

Leonard Cohen Soundtracks True Detective Season 2 Credits

True Detective was a regular featured player back when we ranked the best soundtrack moments of each month, and the show returned to HBO for its second season last night with an updated opening credits sequence to match the mood of the new locale and characters. The show’s music supervisor, T. Bone Burnett, chose Leonard Cohen’s “Nevermind” as the theme for the new season, a song that appears in completed form on his 2014 album Popular Problems, but started its existence as a poem back in 2005. Preview Questlove And Iggy Pop’s Appearance On Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown

This week on Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown, the professional foodie will travel to Florida in order to hang with Questlove and learn about the “Miami sound.” In the trailer for the episode, the two consume excessive amounts of mouthwatering fried stuff and viewers learn that Bourdain just doesn’t “get” chicken and waffles, to which Questlove responds, “What? You don’t like your food integrated?” Bourdain also meets his idol, Iggy Pop, on an idyllic Floridian beach. The episode will air this Sunday, watch the trailer over at CNN.

Watch The Series Premiere Of Diplo’s Animated TV Show Major Lazer

Diplo’s Major Lazer animated series has been in the works for a long time — they were obviously fixated on ’80s cartoons since the release of their first album back in 2009 — and it finally premiered on FXX’s Animation Domination block on Thursday night. They also debuted a new song, “Night Riders,” in celebration of the premiere. As we found out earlier this month, J.K. Simmons, Ezra Koenig, Charli XCX, Riff Raff, Andy Samberg, and Aziz Ansari will all make guest appearances sometime this season.

South Park closed out its 18th season with a slew of musical “guest stars” that have generated a lot of criticism and discussion this year. There’s a hologram of Kurt Cobain, performances from Taylor Swift and Iggy Azalea, and Stan’s dad resurfaces as Lorde, again. There are several duets throughout — Azalea performs “A Holly Jolly Christmas” alongside an Elvis hologram, and Swift is faced with the obscenely uncomfortable task of singing “Baby It’s Cold Outside” with Bill Cosby. Chance the Rapper and Erykah Badu were both featured on the latest episode of Adult Swim's movie-inspired crass cartoon series "Black Dynamite". In the episode, Chance plays Bob Marley, who emerges from the sea. Badu plays Rita Marley and a prostitute. Watch Junior Brown’s Better Call Saul Theme Song Video

Better Call Saul, the Breaking Bad spinoff prequel starring the always-great Bob Odenkirk as shady criminal lawyer Saul Goodman, is still a few months away from its premiere date in February. Last night, in the midst of a Breaking Bad marathon, AMC debuted another teaser clip, this time in the form of a music video. Performed by country singer Junior Brown on his trademark double-necked “guit-steel” hybrid guitar, written by Breaking Bad composer Dave Porter and Adam Dornblum, and with lyrics penned by show creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould, the song details a number of scenarios in which one might indeed want to, yes, call Saul. These include getting behind the wheel after drinking three Long Island Iced Teas, sticking a George Foreman grill down your pants, and possibly murdering your husband. The video also sneaks in a few snippets of actual footage from the show, although, as expected, they reveal pretty much nothing.

David Bowie & Mick Jagger’s “Dancing In The Street” Video Without The Music Is Pretty Great

If you haven’t heard of the “musicless music video” series this might be the best introduction. Behold David Bowie and Mick Jagger’s infamous “Dancing In The Street” video in which the music’s replaced awkward sound effects. So we get feet pattering on pavement and some occasional grunting to soundtrack the terrible dancing. It’s funnier than it should be.

If we were the sort of website that posted more than just music, we would be absolutely all over every single trailer for the forthcoming Game Of Thrones season. As it is, we now have a reason to post about the show. The new trailer for the show’s fourth season features a new song: British pop trio London Grammar covering INXS’s 1989 single “Devil Inside.” That’s a song about man’s capacity for evil, a theme that this show has explored plenty. And after that deeply goofy mixtape, it’s the second musical endeavor the show has made to promote the coming season. Watch Beth Sing Waxahatchee On The Walking Dead (Because They Couldn’t Get Neutral Milk Hotel)

The Walking Dead takes place in a tragic, apocalyptic reality where armies of corpses are after flesh and the fellow survivors are even more dangerous, so you’d think the show’s characters wouldn’t have much time for indie rock. Apparently, they do, though! The character Beth Greene (played by Emily Kinney) has already established herself as the show’s resident hipster; she sang Tom Waits’s “Hold On” on the show last season. And on last night’s episode, she sang “Be Good,” a song from Waxahatchee’s debut album American Weekend, to her kinda-boyfriend Darryl. Radio.com reports that the show had attempted to license a Neutral Milk Hotel song for the moment, but they ended up with “Be Good” because of what music supervisor Thomas Golubic calls a “licensing hurdle.” But that’s OK; “Be Good” is a great song! Also of note: American Weekend came out in 2012, when The Walking Dead had already been on TV for two years, so I guess the show takes place in the very near future?

Watch South Park Parody Kanye Again

Back in 2009, South Park aired an episode based around the idea that Kanye West is actually a gay fish, or that he’s so insecure that a joke about him being a gay fish would be enough to plunge him into an identity crisis. That episode, one of the most famous in the show’s history, led to a shockingly honest and non-pissed blog response from Kanye, though he did later threaten to “choke a South Park writer with a fish stick” on record. (This was the same album where Kanye said “Fuck SNL and they whole staff.” Bill Hader: twice dissed!) Well, Kanye now has more reason to get weirdly, conflictedly upset. Last night’s South Park season finale, titled “The Hobbit,” featured the return of Kanye, now a “recovering gay fish” engaged to Kim Kardashian. This one, built around ideas of Photoshop and body-image issues, is more targeted at Kim than at Kanye, but there’s still plenty of stuff in there, including a “Bound 2” parody. (If that response time strikes you as impressive, there’s also a bit about Time naming Pope Francis as its Man Of The Year. That happened yesterday.) Watch all of cartoon Kanye’s appearances below.

Cartoon Network 20th Birthday Music Video

Our friends at Cartoon Network got in touch earlier in the year to ask us to work with them on a music video for their 20th Birthday celebrations. Needless to say we jumped at the chance and we started work on an epic 2 minute long video featuring original music from Mad Decent and nearly every character Cartoon Network has aired over the past 20 years.

The video finally premiered on the 1st of October and will appear on Cartoon Network throughout the month of October and is also available for download through iTunes and Amazon (for free!) as well as being on CN's youtube channel.

OFF! - "Borrow and Bomb" / "I Got News For You" (OFFicial video)

After his years playing a lovably ineffectual authority figure on News Radio, it stands to reason that Dave Foley would be perfect as the clueless teacher rapping to teens about punk rock. And Foley is effective in this, understated and convincingly befuddled. But he’s not the best thing about it. Instead, I have to give it up for the way the video goes all-in on the early-’80s UHF-channel aesthetic, treating it like the trailers between movies in Grindhouse. And I would totally watch Lethal Justice if it was a real show.

Sypnosis

In order to get back at his dad, Bart goes undercover as a graffiti street artist and plasters Homer's unflattering image all over Springfield. But one night, Bart and Milhouse get caught in the act by established street artists Shepard Fairey, Ron English, Kenny Scharf and Robbie Conal (guest voicing as themselves), and to Bart's surprise, they invite him to exhibit his satirical artwork in his very own gallery show. Meanwhile, a hip, new health food superstore opens in Springfield that threatens to put Apu and the Kwik-E-Mart out of business.

Wilco & Popeye - "Dawned On Me"

Wilco hasn’t issued a video since 1999. Maybe they wait for an idea, maybe they just hate music videos. Regardless, their video for “Dawned on Me” indicates they’ve definitely hit a creative streak. The Chicago troupe gets animated, time travels to the ’30s, and buddies up with Popeye, Olive Oyl, Swee’ Pea, Wimpy, and Bluto. Director Darren Romanelli conceived the idea and collaborated with King Features to put together the first hand-drawn, frame-by-frame rendering for Popeye since 1987′s Popeye and Son. If you’re wondering what the story’s about, it’s pretty honest Popeye fare. Olive Oyl’s in a love tryst between our spinach-eating sailor, Bluto…and Jeff Tweedy.

Watch Fucked Up Play "Jingle Bells" on Anthony Bourdain's Holiday Special

Rounding out the wacky pack of guests on last night's "Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations" holiday special was none other than Fucked Up. Unfortunately, we didn't get to see the band talk food with Bourdain (the same thing happened when Das Racist appeared on the show last year), but MTV Hive points to their very Fucked Up version of "Jingle Bells".

Also, in one deeply inexplicable moment, the show featured a short animation with Norah Jones singing a Catalan kids’ song about shitting.

Watch the First New "Beavis and Butt-head" Episode in 14 Years

Huh-huh. Last night saw the return of MTV's gloriously lewd animated series "Beavis and Butt-head". The episode, "Werewolves of Highland", marked the start of the Mike Judge-created series' ninth season, and the first new episode since the show stopped airing in 1997.

The series picks up with the same dry crudeness that its original run encompassed, but adjusted for 2011-era references. Last night's episode, for instance, finds Beavis and Butt-head watching Joanna Newsom in MGMT's "Kids" video, and commenting on a Skrillex video. They also watch one of the Twilight films, then decide to become vampires and werewolves to woo women. The show airs on MTV.
