Watch Pharmakon’s Bestial Burden Short Film

Pharmakon’s Bestial Burden (Stream) is a visceral meditation on some serious health problems, so as you might expect, the new short film Pharmakon just released to accompany the album is pretty gross. It’s not necessarily NSFW, but video depicting internal organs getting torn apart (reminiscent of the album cover) is not for the squeamish. There’s also a lot of dark performance footage and some fire. Margaret Chardiet co-directed the clip with Nina Hartmann.

Watch Chanel’s “Reincarnation” Short Starring Pharrell & Cara Delevingne

Pharrell is everywhere now, so why not opposite supermodel Cara Delevingne in a Chanel short film by Karl Lagerfeld? “Reincarnation” features the superstar duo dancing in an old-fashioned ballroom dressed up in splendorous formal attire. They also sing a very pretty duet that matches ancient pop stylings with a slick modern beat. Géraldine Chaplin also makes an appearance. The whole thing smacks of high-fashion beauty, as you’d expect from such a production.

Just Blaze & Baauer feat. JAY Z - "Higher" (Official Short Film)

Just before the whole “Harlem Shake” thing really popped off, Baauer got together with Just Blaze, one of the greatest rap producers ever, to make “Higher,” a hard-as-fuck trap rave track that was all shot through with Jay-Z vocal samples. (Right now, it’s tagged as “featuring Jay Z,” but Jay doesn’t rap on it or anything, so no.) The track now has a video from director Nabil, and like most things directed by Nabil, it’s incredible. The clip tells the story about a little kid in India who tries to get his revenge on a drunk-asshole martial artist type. It all looks like it’s heading toward a situation like the one with Ben Affleck and the paint in Dazed & Confused, but then things take… another direction.

"This Must Be The Only Fantasy" | Rodarte & Todd Cole (Short Film Soundtracked By Beach House)

Kate and Laura Mulleavy, the sister design duo behind the line Rodarte, and photographer Todd Cole have linked up for This Must Be The Only Fantasy, a short film soundtracked by Beach House. In the film, a disgruntled Dungeons & Dragons player (played by surfer/model Sidney Williams) liberates herself from the basement, only to have her world turned into a real-life fantasy. Elijah Wood, who we already know plays fantasy well, and model Guinevere Van Seenus co-star.

The Knife’s Short Film About Shaking The Habitual

Today, the Knife release Shaking The Habitual, their dark and overwhelming new double album. And now they’ve teamed with director Marit Östberg, who also helmed their “Full Of Fire” video, to make a 13-minute short film about the album. In the video, the two siblings in the group take turns talking about the album, its themes, and the ideas underpinning it in prewritten and intricately plotted-out fashion, while Östberg flashes creepy non-sequitur images onscreen. And if you’ve yet to take on the vast album, its music plays constantly in the video, offering a relatively digestible starting point.

Paperman - Full Animated Short Film

The Disney animated short Paperman is up for an Oscar this year. The technique used to produce it is a combination of hand-drawn art and computer animation, giving it the feel of a classic Disney film.
Paperman‘s seemingly seamless way of blending the personality of hand-drawn animation with CGI in the physical space of the story is the result of new in-house software called Meander, a vector-based drawing program that allows for manipulation of the line after the fact — something that Kahrs described as “just like painting on the surface of the CG.”

In practice, it successfully blends the best of both forms of animation together in way they’ve never been seen before. Depicting George and Meg as flat, drawn characters keeps them safely out of the uncanny valley that even the best CGI sometimes can’t avoid and somehow makes them seem more real; other sequences, like the multiple paper airplanes zooming through the air, would be far less convincing and far more time-consuming if rendered without the help of computer generated imagery.
The plot? Boy meets girl, of course. Link

Kanye West - "Cruel Winter" Trailer (Feat. George Bush, Sr.)

Kanye West made a short film called Cruel Summer — he also built a pyramid for the occasion, cuz he’s Kanye — which served as a precursor to the eventual G.O.O.D. Music compilation record of the same name. Now, Kanye’s posted a short trailer to a new short called Cruel Winter which features a snippet George H.W. Bush’s “New World Order” Gulf War speech draped over some stark nature footage. Do you think George H.W. Bush rents a Maybach, or owns? Watch the trailer below.

HEALTH - "Tears" (A Short by David Altobelli and Jeff Desom)

Earlier this year, the astrally inclined L.A. noise-dance band HEALTH released their score for the video game Max Payne 3, and now the Creators Project has produced a video for “Tears,” their single from the soundtrack. The video, from directors David Altobelli and Jeff Desom, takes place in a desolate apocalyptic hellscape where carnivorous zombie toddlers rule all that they see. As a father of two, I can tell you that fictional zombie toddlers are only marginally scarier than real non-zombie toddlers.

New Year's End: A BioShock Short Film

Fans of the Bioshock video game series (like me!) are getting mighty excited about the upcoming release of Bioshock: Infinite later this year, so it’s no wonder we watch everything related to Bioshock that comes out on the interwebs in order to get our Rapture fix.

To tide us over until the new game is released, here’s an entertaining Bioshock themed short film, which deals with the events that took place in Rapture before the first game on that fateful New Years Eve, 1958.

The Death And Return Of Superman-A NSFW Fan Film With Epic Cameos

I’m pretty sure the only way a fan film can have this many celebrity cameos packed into one short film is if the fan in question is John Landis’ son Max, with co-collaborator Bryan Basham on hand to keep all that Hollywood cred from going straight to his head.

Watch as Max and Bryan, and a handful of really famous friends, make The Death And Return Of Superman, “a somewhat-mostly-accurate educational parody film” about the time Superman got “killed” by Doomsday, then came back a little while later.

It’s like Drunken History, only about comic books instead of, you guessed it, history, and I really hope this picks up where DH has fallen short over the years and they run with this concept, because it’s gold I tell ya GOLD!

Oh, and in case you missed it in the title, this hilarious vid is for grown folks and is extremely NSFW, so if adult language ruins your day don’t watch, just ask someone who’s seen the vid to give you a recap!

Shabazz Palaces - Black Up

Shabazz Palaces’ new music video isn’t for a particular song off of their album Black Up; it’s for the entire album, or at least as much of it as they can fit into five minutes. The video weaves clips of music from many of the album’s songs into a visual tapestry full of gorgeous isolated images and big, sweeping Race-In-America type themes. Like the album itself, it’s as oddly beautiful as it is disorienting, and it takes on a whole lot of ideas but even more feelings. It’s pretty great. Khalil Joseph directs, and you should really seriously.
