Bleachers - How Dare You Want More (Live Video)

Last month, in-demand pop producer Jack Antonoff finally returned with his own project Bleachers, whose last full-length project arrived in 2017. Last month he announced their third studio album Take The Sadness Out Of Saturday Night and released the lead single “Stop Making This Hurt.” This new record will also feature the two new Bleachers songs from last year, “45” and the Bruce Springsteen collab “Chinatown.”

Today, Bleachers have unveiled another single, “How Dare You Want More.” It’s as sonically buoyant and lyrically crestfallen as the rest of the songs, which makes sense for a record that’s titled Take The Sadness Out Of Saturday Night. In addition to Antonoff’s usual fixation, this one finds Antonoff drifting back to 2010s indie rock sounds — think the Drums or Best Coast.

Watch The Weeknd, Ellie Goulding, & Selena Gomez Perform At The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show

The 20th annual Feel Bad About Your Body Awards Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show was last night, and the Weeknd provided the musical entertainment alongside Ellie Goulding and Selena Gomez. Abel Tesfaye — who also released a video for “In The Night” yesterday — did his hit song “Can’t Feel My Face,” while Goulding did her 50 Shades Of Grey song “Love Me Like You Do” and “Army,” and Selena Gomez did a medley of “Hands To Myself” and “Me & My Girls.” All were flanked by gorgeous models, and definitely did not have to be there in person for the runway walks soundtracked by their songs. Nonetheless, watch videos of all the performances below.

Love Me Like You Do - From "Fifty Shades Of Grey" (Live from the Victoria’s Secret 2015)

Ellie Goulding - Army (Live from the Victoria’s Secret 2015 Fashion Show)

Hands To Myself/Me & My Girls - Medley (Live from the Victoria’s Secret 2015 Fashion Show)

Cloud Castle Lake - “Genuflect” Live Video

Irish epic art-rockers Cloud Castle Lake are one of many bands from across the Atlantic making their US performance debut at CMJ Music Marathon this week. They’re also one of the best, a compositionally ambitious lot with a knack for dynamic buildup and catharsis that rivals key influences Sigur Rós and Radiohead. We quite liked last year’s Dandelion EP and this year’s “Glacier” single, and today we’re excited to present the first song from their upcoming debut full-length. “Genuflect” is a slow-burn sprawl that evolves from creeping lurch to tribal tumble to free-jazz orchestral chaos over the course of its seven minutes. As usual, it’s all topped off by Daniel McAuley’s falsetto pirouetting on a high wire. Watch Cloud Castle Lake perform it live below.

Watch The Dead Weather Perform “I Feel Love (Every Million Miles)” Live At Third Man Records

Back in July, Jack White and Alison Mosshart announced Dodge And Burn, the third full-length from their supergroup side project the Dead Weather, and a few weeks ago they shared a video for lead single “I Feel Love (Every Million Miles).” Now they’ve released a live performance video of the song as well, a stylized black-and-white clip of the band playing at Third Man Records with piles of tires and full bodysuit-clad mannequins (or possibly unnaturally still human beings? — at least one of them definitely seems to move slightly) inexplicably hanging out in the background. This is apparently the first installment of a series of live performance and instrument technique discussion videos to be released in the coming weeks, so watch out for those and watch this one below.

Watch Liam Gallagher & Roger Daltrey Sing The Who’s “My Generation” On TFI Friday Special

Last night, Liam Gallagher and Roger Daltrey led a one-off supergroup performance of the Who’s “My Generation” on British TV show TFI Friday, which revived for a two-hour special to celebrate its 20th anniversary. The group was rounded out by the Lightning Seeds’ Ian Broudie and former Oasis members Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs and Zak Starkey (who has also played with the Who). Blur also showed up to play “Coffee And TV,” and you can watch both performances below.

Mumford & Sons - “Snake Eyes” (Live Video)

The tremendous doofs in Mumford & Sons are continuing with their questionable plan to leave behind the big-tent neo-folk that made them famous. The band’s new album Wilder Mind looms imminent, and the hamfisted early singles “Believe” and “The Wolf” move the band toward a supremely bland and character-free form of rock music. The latest is “Snake Eyes,” a song that has the same sort of cathartic build as older Mumford tracks — except instead of building to a big close-harmony bleat-along, this one leads to crashing compressed guitars. It works about as well as you’d imagine. The band has shared the song in live-video form, even though the audio is pretty clearly the studio version. Satisfy your morbid curiosity.

Watch Jack White’s Full Coachella Set, Dedicated To The Transgender Community

Jack White headlined Saturday night at Coachella, performing songs from across his extensive catalogue as both a solo artist and member of the Raconteurs and the White Stripes. In a tweet last night, Third Man Records announced that his set was dedicated to the transgender community. White ended the 90-minute set with “Seven Nation Army,” inaugurating the now classic White Stripes song with Rage Against The Machine’s “Testify” intro. Watch the entire performance and check out White’s setlist below.

Mikal Cronin - “The Ballad Of El Goodo” (Big Star Cover)

For a band that never “made it” in their day, Big Star’s risen to a level of inimitable fame thanks to more objectively successful acts toting them as pinnacle influences. Alex Chilton is a name in his own right, but for many, Big Star will forever piggy-back on the shoulders of the greats who champion them. The Replacements, Elliott Smith, Afghan Whigs, and about a zillion others cite the early ’70s band as a massive influence, and the list of well-known Big Star covers seems to unravel into infinity. The last one we heard was from Philly-based duo Girlpool, who took on the quiet monster “Thirteen” last year, and just a few days ago Mikal Cronin covered “The Ballad Of El Goodo” live on Monocle radio. Listen to a stream of the live session here, or just watch Cronin perform the classic song in Amsterdam.

Watch Jack White And Robert Plant Play Led Zeppelin’s “The Lemon Song” At Lollapalooza Argentina

The nicest thing I’ve ever heard anyone say about Jack White is that he’s Robert Plant and Jimmy Page if they were the same person. That gets at White’s appeal, but when you sit White next to the genuine article, you see that he still has a ways to go. Over the weekend, White headlined the Lollapalooza Argentina festival. Robert Plant, who also played the show, joined him onstage to sing Led Zeppelin’s thunderous 1969 rager “The Lemon Song.” And even at the age of 66, Plant hits notes that White couldn’t even dream about. It’s fun to see the two share a stage, and maybe it’ll be a taste of things to come. Last year, Plant said that he loves White’s “buccaneer spirit” and that he might like to record with him. Maybe we can make that happen now? Check out the performance.

Watch Will Butler’s Furious, Kickass Letterman Performance + Stream Will Butler Policy

Will Butler has been playing with Arcade Fire for upwards of a decade, and he’s evidently spent some time thinking about how he’d present himself if and when he ever went solo. Yesterday, Butler released Policy, his first-ever solo album. Last night, he was the musical guest on the Late Show With David Letterman. And watching that performance, it’s clear that he thought long and hard about how he’d approach the whole thing. There was the unconventional backing band: Keyboardist, stand-up drummer, two backup singers, no bass, no guitar besides his own. There was the tuxedo and the slash of hair across his face. And there was the song: “Take My Side,” a punk song shot through with ’60s girl-group harmonies, played with basement-hardcore intensity. We don’t often hear guitar that sounds that scrambled on late-night TV. It’s a hell of a performance, and you can watch.

Watch Björk And Arca Perform “Stonemilker” Live For The First Time At Carnegie Hall

Yesterday, Björk played her first show in support of Vulnicura at Carnegie Hall. The first half of the show was dedicated to performing most of her new album’s tracks in order, which meant starting things off with the aching opening track “Stonemilker.” This was the first time she performed any of the Vulnicura tracks live. Björk was supported by Arca and a string section made up of members of New York collective Alarm Will Sound.

The Staves - “Make It Holy” Live Video

British folk sister act the Staves know how to cast a spell live, as they showed in their recent Take Away Show. And in a new video, we see what happens when all three Stavely-Taylor sisters stand across from one another in a recording studio. The band’s new album If I Was, which they recorded with Justin Vernon, is coming out in a couple of weeks, and they just shared a video of themselves singing the album track “Make It Holy” live in a studio, their harmonies captured in crisp black-and-white.

Watch Noel Gallagher Play “Don’t Look Back In Anger” With A Choir At Belfast Tour Opener

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds’ sophomore album Chasing Yesterdays came out yesterday, and he kicked off his tour to support it in Belfast last night. Gallagher has previously hinted that he would reunite Oasis for the right amount of money (a lot), and fans got a taste of what that might be like when he performed “Don’t Look Back In Anger” backed by a choir. So even if Gallagher no longer likes the album title (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, at least we know he still likes this song — and it sounds really, really good with a choir.

Watch Tegan And Sara And The Lonely Island Perform On The Oscars

Tegan And Sara and the Lonely Island took to the Academy Awards stage tonight for a deliriously fun performance of “Everything Is AWESOME!!!,” the Oscar-nominated song from The Lego Movie. Human counterparts of Lego figures (construction workers, astronauts, cowboys) and an “awesome possum” populated the stage. Joining the vocalists were Questlove, Mark Mothersbaugh (who co-produced the song), and Will Arnett as Batman. Some lucky audience members including Oprah Winfrey and Steve Carell were handed Lego Oscars.

Watch The Full Video Of Ben Gibbard Covering Alvvays’ “Archie, Marry Me,” His Favorite Song Of The Year

During a benefit show last year, Ben Gibbard covered Alvvays’ breakout track “Archie, Marry Me,” but we only saw a very short clip of the performance. Turns out that the whole concert was being recorded in high-quality as a joint venture between KEXP, Starbucks, and STG, and they’ve recently shared the whole thing. Before he starts playing, Gibbard calls it his “favorite song of the year.”

Watch The New Basement Tapes Play Two Songs On Kimmel

The New Basement Tapes — which features Elvis Costello, My Morning Jacket’s Jim James, and Mumford & Sons’ Marcus Mumford, among others — is a supergroup that exists entirely to finish up unfinished songs from Bob Dylan and the Band’s Basement Tapes. The group released its own Lost On The River album recently, and they’ve already played their songs on Fallon and Ellen. Last night, they were musical guests on Jimmy Kimmel Live, where they played the smaller indoor studio. On the show proper, James led them through “Nothing To It.” As an online bonus, they also did “Duncan & Jimmy,” which works as a lovely showcase for the Carolina Chocolate Drops’ Rhiannon Giddens and which stands, right now, as the strongest thing I’ve seen from this band. That lady is a total star.

Watch First Aid Kit Play “Stay Gold” On Conan

First Aid Kit came all the way from Sweden to bring their brand of blustery folk-pop to Conan last night. They performed the title track from their third studio album, Stay Gold, which was released earlier this year. The drums are a lot lower in the live mix than they are on the album, which allows the duo to really highlight the impressive harmonies they’re able to do.

Watch FKA twigs’ Incredible Tonight Show Performance

Late-night talk shows thrive on familiarity, and it’s not easy to make a stage on one of those shows look like something we haven’t seen before. Last night on Fallon, FKA twigs pulled it off. In her American TV debut, twigs sang “Two Weeks,” the great single from her debut stunner LP1. And with a simple bit of stagecraft, she made herself look like something otherworldly. Carrying a couple of gigantic pieces of silk, with fans at the bottom of the stage blowing them up in the air, twigs managed to look like she was underwater, or floating in space, the whole time she was on TV. It was some serious Kate Bush-level art-pop stunting, and it made for an absorbing, powerful performance, one of those late-night performances that I’d have to consider essential viewing.

Rob Cantor - “Shia LaBeouf” Live (Official Video)

Rob Cantor - “Shia LaBeouf” (Dir. Scott Uhlfelder)

How does a video like this come to exist? Who ponies up the money? Who is it for? Whatever, I don’t care, it’s great.
