Super Mario Bros. Recreated In A Cardboard Box

This is side-scrolling done right, ladies and gamers. Simple graphics, instant enjoyment, and not much of a learning curve is the classic formula for success. (see Angry Birds and Lemmings) But this time it’s done in real life — well, in a cardboard box at least.

Open the box and the game starts. A little knob on the right side allows Mario to jump over Goombas and other obstacles mounted with magnetic tape as he progresses through the world at an ever-increasing speed. If Mario happens to miss his mark and pass over one of these magnetic areas, our hero essentially dies and the game resets. Awesome.

Ordæmonium

Having spent the last semester at the RCA working on this (very) short film I am happily posting it online now. I tried not to pre-plan and to have this this project as an experiment to see what happens if I let my unconscious unravel itself. I had a basic idea, the tangled spaghetti in the plate, and a hidden narrative emerged around this image with a perhaps alcoholic father and a child who is tangled between chaos and order.

Ordaemnium probably falls short sense and filmic punctuation but still, it was an enjoyable process and I benefited from making this short. Enjoy?

Chirality is a scientific term describing a structure that is not identical to its mirror image. “Chiral” collects cinematic etudes, which develop various conceptual approaches in order to expand the two-dimensional image into space. They are projected onto a sculpture (510 x 260 x 370 cm) and a screen (250 x 200 cm) made from handmade Taiwanese paper and develop very different lives on these configurations of the same material.

The amalgamation of volumetric lights sets ideas from Chinese calligraphy into motion and melts them with influences from European Art Informel as well as impasto painting to an abstract-organic sculpture. The installation is completed by a soundtrack by Austrian composer Richard Eigner (www.ritornell.at). With the premiere in MOCA Taipei the first iteration of the long-term project was presented…

"About half a year ago, I stumbled on these wood-chip plate compositions my late grandfather made. They're a beautiful example of early Israeli-Yemenite art. As soon as I saw them I knew I had to animate them. They had been in storage for years so it meant a great deal to bring them out and breathe life into them. This was an opportunity to not only contribute to his work, but also expose it to the audience it never had. When I heard "River's Edge" I was amazed. It's a great track and the music and lyrics corresponded to the plates perfectly. It was really exciting to see how the visuals complemented the song."

How Books Were Made

In the summer of 1995, bookmaker Johnny Carrera of Quercus Press found a tattered Webster’s 1898 International Dictionary under his grandfather’s favorite chair. He was fascinated with the thousands of engravings and spent the next decade of his life remaking the book using a Linotype machine.

The result is the gorgeous handmade Pictorial Webster. It’s not just a book. It’s an artwork. If you don’t have a spare $3,500 to buy the deluxe full leather book, you can still get the great unwashed version for $23 at Amazon.

Just a huge fan of this movie. Wanted to make a exciting trailer with a modern feel as oppose to its original marketing in the 80s. I hope people will give this movie a try before they see Tron Legacy. Sure its dated but there was practically nothing like it in the day, especially 1982. Hope you folks like this fan edit and do check out the film before the sequel comes out. Also rate comment subscribe if you like what you see. Thank you for watching!!
