Cat Power – “Cherokee”

In the video for “Cherokee,” the single from Cat Power’s excellent new album Sun, Chan Marshall engages in zombie laser battle in some sort of immaculately designed apocalyptic future. Marshall herself directs the narrative-heavy video, and I’m going to have to watch it a few more times to figure out whether it’s symbolic of something or whether she just wanted to make her own low-budget ’80s-style sci-fi movie.

Star Wars Fan Made Short

Apparently working by himself, Otaking77077 created this inspired animated short that shows us the people behind the masks of The Empire. The original version had no audio, so YouTuber SuperMulciber added Sleigh Bells “Born,” which works surprisingly well.

Mind Spiders – “Wait For Us”

“A reclusive man sends a distress beacon to catch his ticket off an abandoned planet,” reads the plot synopsis of Texas garage ensemble Mind Spiders’ video for “Wait For Us,” which is pretty much the best, eeriest possible jump-off for a sci-fi-tinged clip. The set is MST3K-like in it’s clever, homemade fashion, where performance footage is spliced with a tale of astronaut intrigue and escape. Jason Reimer directs.

Chromatics – “Candy” Video

Over the past few months, we’ve posted three videos from the atmospheric, slow-pulse Italo revivalists Chromatics: “Kill For Love,” “Into The Black,” and “Lady,” all from their forthcoming album Kill For Love. And now the band has released the fourth video from the album, this one for the new track “Candy.” Like the others, it has visuals that seem pulled from a no-budget ’70s sci-fi movie, right down to the film stock. Frequent director Alberto Rossini directs.

MEN IN BLACK 3 - Official Trailer

Watch: First Teaser Trailer for Will Smith's New 'Men in Black 3'

"Who are we? We are no one." Columbia has unveiled the first teaser trailer this morning (via YouTube) for Men in Black 3, the latest sequel in the MIB sci-fi comedy series, once again starring Will Smith as Agent J, and introducing Josh Brolin as the younger Agent K. Oh and "Agent K" is definitely still in this, Tommy Lee Jones' K, only briefly though. We've heard this sequel has gone through a lot of production problems and it shows, this looks a bit rough, almost made-for-TV. What happened? The first movie was so damn good, how did it devolve into this? Give it a shot anyway, I truly hope it turns out better next summer.

Men in Black III
is once again directed by Barry Sonnenfeld, also of the first two. This newest sequel is said to be set mostly in the year 1969 and involves Agent J (Will Smith) time-traveling back to that year, where he meets up with a young Agent K (Josh Brolin) for some plot involving, most likely, our landing on the Moon. The cast also includes Emma Thompson as Agent Oh, Alice Eve as a young Oh, Bill Hader, Jemaine Clement, Rip Torn and Michael Stuhlbarg. It was shot in 3D and Columbia currently has it scheduled to hit theaters starting May 25th next summer. You can visit the official site: TheMenInBlackSuitsAreReal.com.

John Cale – “Catastrofuk”

Velvet Underground figurehead John Cale’s new video for “Catastrofuk” is a pretty freaky scene (basically, The Alice In Wonderland tea party scene + the moon!) which coincides with the controlled chaos of the track. The director is Eden Cale, his daughter, capping off a monumental week in directorial work by rock daughters. The collaboration seems a little more seamless than the one his former VU bandmate is currently working on.

VOLTRON: The End - (Live action short)

VOLTRON: The End - (Live action short directed by Alex Albrecht)

When a man regains consciousness in a Voltron battle lion after an "accident" he has to decide does he live a few more minutes or try to tell the world what happened... the end is only the beginning.

---

Yes.

Let it be done.

It is time for Voltron, the Defender of the Far Universe, to return to the screen. Hollywood: our supply of romantic comedies is quite adequate, thank you very much. Now devote your efforts to this noble cause. Spare no expense.

H+ | Comic-Con trailer (2011)

Bryan Singer beams the internet straight into your brain, in the trailer for H+

Watch the first trailer for Bryan Singer's futuristic webseries H+, in which the population has ditched smart phones for brain implants. And of course, it all goes horribly wrong.

Here's a quick synopsis:

H+: The Digital Series takes viewers on a journey into an apocalyptic future where technology has begun to spiral out of control, a future where 33% of the world's population has retired its cell phones and laptops in favor of a stunning new device – an implanted computer system called H+.

This tiny tool allows the user's own mind and nervous system to be connected to the Internet 24 hours a day. But something else is coming… something dark and vicious… and within seconds, billions of people will be dead… opening the door to radical changes in the political and social landscape of the planet - prompting survivors to make sense of what went wrong.

No word yet on when the series is set to go online, but rumor has it, it will air by 2011. Fingers crossed for this one, the FX are pretty compelling. Let's hope the story works as well!

---

From producer Bryan Singer ( X-Men , X2 , X-Men : First Class , Superman Returns ) comes a Comic-Con exclusive first look at H+, the forthcoming Warner Premiere/Dolphin Entertainment web series directed by Stewart Hendler (Sorority Row) and written and created by John Cabrera and Cosimo De Tommaso. H+ takes place in a near-future world where a tiny and stunning new piece of technology lies at the center of a dark and epic mystery.

Chad VanGaalen - Peace On The Rise

Music Video: Chad VanGaalen - Peace On The Rise [Sub Pop]

The excellent music video for “Peace On The Rise” by Chad VanGaalen is a colorful and very bizarre animated journey though a strange alien land. Reminds me of old Heavy Metal comics. Did you find the egg salad sandwich?
