Colin Stetson, the saxophone monster and Bon Iver/Arcade Fire collaborator, is getting ready to release SORROW,
his first solo album since 2013. The album is a reimagining of Henryk
Górecki’s Third Symphony, from 1977, and it’s the first Stetson solo
album that’ll feature outside musicians, rather than just Stetson doing
incredible things to his instrument. The first extended piece we’ve
heard from it is a five-minute excerpt with slow-building drones and
opera singing, and it sounds pretty incredible. It comes with a video
from director Dan Huiting, which shows slow aerial pans across wintry landscapes and seascapes.
