Worriers - “Most Space” (Official Video)

The New York punk band Worriers just released the very good album Imaginary Life, which Against Me!’s Laura Jane Grace produced, and now they’ve made the first video from that album. Band leader Lauren Denitzio produced, shot, and edited the video for the New York anxiety anthem “Most Space.” It shows the members of the band and various other New York punk rockers (including Slice Harvester zine star Colin Atrophy) making themselves at home on a New York subway car. Jonathan Snipes, Daveed Diggs, & Signor Benedick The Moor - “12:00am” (Official Video)

L.A. trio clipping.’s sort-of-self-titled LP was one of my favorite albums of last year, an experimental noise-rap opus that didn’t really deconstruct hip-hop tropes so much as it embodied and celebrated them while gleefully fucking with form. Filmmaker Carlos Lopez Estrada has directed four music videos for the group, and each of them is an inventive, memorable, and weirdly unsettling experience — which, appropriately enough, is also how listening to clipping.’s music could be described. Now, two-thirds of clipping., composer Jonathan Snipes and rapper Daveed Diggs, have once again teamed up with Estrada and previous clipping. collaborator Christian McLaurin IX (aka Signor Benedick The Moor) for a new one-off song and video. The music was made specifically to accompany the visuals, which Estrada reportedly originally shot two years ago. The whole thing is one elaborate, extremely technically impressive set piece, constructed to look like one continuous take following a man on a hellish climb through the belly of the city, exposing layer after layer of urban life like geological strata as he goes. The production follows suit, shifting in tone as he climbs, and Diggs and Benedick accompany it with some paranoid, apocalyptic double-time verses about the state of modern society, also briefly interpolating Curtis Mayfield’s immortal “Pusherman.”

Gang Signs - “Mate” (Official Video)

From the first handclap on “Mate,” you can tell exactly what Gang Signs are going for. The primal drums, the shadowy and minimalist instrumentation, the interplay between Peter Ricq and Matea Sarenac’s vocals — it’s straight out of the xx’s playbook, but it’s executed so well that it doesn’t matter if we’ve heard it all before. There’s something about this kind of music that’s inherently appealing; it has a tendency to steal you away to a different headspace. The way the guitars cascade upwards and on top of each other, the tension that comes with the repetition of certain lines. It’s all about evoking a certain mood, and the Vancouver trio seem particularly adept at it. “Mate”‘s from their upcoming debut full-length, Geist.

Petite Noir - “Best” (Official Video)

Petite Noir is the project of Capetown producer Yannick Iluga, who kicked off the year by releasing his debut EP The King Of Anxiety. Though plenty of people will certainly relate to that title, his self-dubbed noirwave seeks a balance between anxiousness and gratitude. If anything reveals that, it’s the title for his just-announced full-length album, La Vie Est Belle / Life Is Beautiful. His debut record will be the flipside to that EP in a lot of ways, but it stays consistent in its attempt to offer a new African aesthetic. In his own words, Iluga says, “I think for me it’s just the story their music tells and the sense of freedom. It’s about seeing the positive in dark times.”

The lead single for his new album is called “Best,” and it comes today along with a sumptuous, shifting video that further challenges assumptions about the African continent and people who live there. It was directed by Trayvon Owens with art direction by Rochelle Nembhard, who both spoke on their vision for the clip.

From Owens:

We wanted to make 4 distinct ‘tribes’ of people. This allowed us to create the visual journey that Yannick is on, running through all of these different landscapes, and allowed us to create these rich scenes which were very different from each other. The four main elements in the video are Fire, Malachite (earth/rock), Water and Gold. The video is about Yannick’s journey through all of these landscapes meeting all of these different tribes.

I wanted to break all boundaries in how we portrayed the continent and her people. The video showcases the beauty of the continent, the richness in her landscapes, the sacredness of her culture, the immense diversity of her tribes and the natural inherent beauty and style of her people.

PWR BTTM - "Ugly Cherries" (Official Music Video)

I’ve spent the past few weeks obsessively watching RuPaul’s Drag Race for the first time ever because I’m an idiot who had never gotten into it before, and it only makes me appreciate PWR BTTM’s spin on drag even more. They take their cues from similar genderfuck queens — like contestants Alaska Thunderfuck 5000, Milk, and Sharon Needles — and create characters that are as fierce as they are fully-realized. Ben Hopkins is the only half of the duo to appear in the video for their new single “Ugly Cherries,” and he takes advantage of the screen time by putting himself opposite … well, himself, just not performing, showing the gap between on the stage and off, and how freeing and constricting both can be.

“I’ve set my ‘best self,’ aka me in crazy monster drag, against my ‘worst self,’ aka me miserably staring at my cellphone alone in my apartment, in an attempt to take stock of my whole self,” Hopkins explained to The FADER. “All of the behaviors within the video are my own, and in staging them side by side I’m trying to take ownership of the good, bad, weird, and fabulous parts of my personality.”

Lenny Kravitz Rocks Out With His Cock Out (Literally)

Wearing ridiculously tight leather pants with no underwear seems like basically the most Lenny Kravitz way that you could possibly dress. We should just go ahead and call this particular fashion statement “the Lenny Kravitz.” But last night in Stockholm, the Lenny Kravitz backfired on Lenny Kravitz. As the Daily Mail reports, Kravitz was playing a show at the Stockholm venue Gröna Lund when he went into a deep squat and his pants split open right down the middle. Even better: He appeared to not notice that anything had happened at first. Kravitz rushed offstage between songs to find a pristine pair of leather pants while a producer came out to tell the crowd that they’d had “some problems on stage.” Watch thankfully-blurred footage of the incident below.

Kendrick Lamar - “For Free?” (Official Video)

Kendrick Lamar just tweeted the video for To Pimp A Butterfly interlude “For Free?” Directed by Joe Weil & The Little Homies, it features a sometimes-costumed Kendrick humorously haunting a rich woman’s mansion while emitting rapid-fire wordplay. The two-minute track is one of the jazziest moments on the record: Tumbling percussion and blaring brass soundtrack Kendrick’s spoken-word rant, punctuated with the phrase “This dick ain’t free.” The video is free, though, so watch it below.

No Devotion - “Addition” (An Official Visualization) Video

Former Thursday frontman Geoff Rickly now has a couple of bands: The great post-hardcore warriors United Nations and No Devotion, his decidedly more mainstream-rock collaboration with the former members of the Welsh band Lostprophets. No Devotion’s debut album Permanence arrives next month, and the band has now made a video for first single “Addition.” SPIN posted the video, which is a bit of a riff on Radiohead’s “No Surprises” clip. In the glitchy video, we see a whole lot of Ricky’s face, as lights flash on it, water streams down it, and someone projects the song’s lyrics across it. Rickly co-directed the video with Liza De Guia, and you can watch.

Migos - “Pipe It Up” (Official Video)

Migos’ major-label debut, Yung Rich Nation, was crowned Album Of The Week last week, which makes it one of many good rap records to land a spot in that column this year. “Pipe It Up” is the ready-for-summer single that dropped in early July, and now the trio has released a video for the song. Quavo and Takeoff perform with a pack of neighborhood folks, and notably absent from the jubilant ensemble is Offset, who faces additional charges in Georgia after the trio was arrested back in April.

Preview Mogwai’s Score For BBC’s Nuclear Warfare Documentary Atomic

This weekend, BBC will premiere a new documentary called Atomic – Living In Dread And Promise as part of a special BBC Four Goes Nuclear series centered around the 70th anniversary of Hiroshima. The documentary, which was directed by Mark Cousins, features a score from Mogwai. A new trailer shows off this score, which sounds very appropriate and very end-of-the-world. The documentary airs on BBC2 Scotland on 8/9 and BBC4 on 8/9.

Watch Ms. Lauryn Hill Cover Nina Simone On The Tonight Show

Lauryn Hill has been in the music-business wilderness for more than a decade, and she only very rarely gives televised performances. (There was a Beatles cover on Letterman last year, but that’s pretty much the only one in recent memory.) But while we may never get a proper follow-up to The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill, Hill has kept busy lately, recording six different Nina Simone covers for the recent tribute compilation Nina Revisited: A Tribute To Nina Simone, released in conjunction with the Netflix documentary What Happened, Miss Simone?. And last night on The Tonight Show, she came through to sing her cover of “Feeling Good,” perhaps Simone’s best-known song. Backed by a massive live band that included strings and horns, Ms. Lauryn Hill sang the absolute hell out of the song, starting understated and building to climax after climax, even scatting a bit at the end. Future - “Kno The Meaning” (Official Video)

Future’s monumental new album Dirty Sprite 2 debuted at #1 on the Billboard chart this week, marking his first-ever #1 album. Accolades or not, the Atlanta rapper continues to drop new videos at the same blistering pace. Still, this video is a far cry from some of the starker mixtape clips he dropped in the interim, cutting back and forth between Future filling a priest’s confession booth with blunt smoke and rapping in front of a swimming pool surrounded by babes in skimpy swimsuits. That contrast sums up the tone of “Kno The Meaning” — and DS2 itself — equal parts mournful and hedonistic. “The best thing I ever did was fall out of love,” Future raps in the Vincent Lou-directed video. But his eyes tell a different story.

The Game - “100” (Feat. Drake) Video

Hey, it’s Drake! And he’s doin’ stuff! A few weeks ago, Drake turned up on “100,” a new single from veteran Compton rapper the Game. A few weeks is an eon in Drake Time, so all this happened before Drake’s current story with Meek Mill started happening, which make’s Game’s Meek namecheck on the track way, way out-of-date already. And Drake’s verse on the song seems to be directed at fellow Compton rapper Kendrick Lamar, whose feud with Drake already feels like it took place during a different geological video. Nonetheless, the “100” video just came out this morning, and it’s got Drake flying down to Compton to spend a sunny day with Game and a whole lot of kids and associates. It’s a warm, fun rap video, and it’s a formidable display of Drake’s very serious on-camera charisma. Theo Skudra directs.

Watch Mark Ronson Cover Queens Of The Stone Age With Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker

Superproducer Mark Ronson stopped by for a live in-studio session at Australian radio station Triple J today. As usual, he assembled a crack team of musicians to back him up, including Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker and Kirin J. Callinan on guitar. The band performed a great psyched-out cover of Queens Of The Stone Age’s “I Sat By The Ocean” for the station’s recurring Like A Version segment, featuring Miike Snow singer Andrew Wyatt on lead vocals. And while they were in the studio, they also played “Daffodils,” one of the Kevin Parker collabs off of Ronson’s Uptown Special.

Here’s That 1,000-Person Italian Foo Fighters Cover Band In Action

Foo Fighters fans are pretty hardcore. Remember that time they successfully crowdfunded the Foo Fighters’ return to Richmond? Then there was that video last year of an Italian man asking for 1,000 people to come together and perform a cover of “Learn To Fly” by the Foo Fighters in hopes of catching Dave Grohl’s attention. Amazingly, he did it. 1,000 ecstatic fans from around Italy came together, jammed in synchronization, and possibly broke a Guinness World Record, all to ask the band to play in the small northern Italian town Cesena. Now we just have to wait and see if the Foo Fighters will respond. Watch the jam session below.

The Atom Age - “Wasteoid” (Official Video)

Last month, we premiered the loud and nasty single “It’s A Mess” from Oakland garage punks the Atom Age. Now they’ve given us another glimpse of their upcoming release Hot Shame with the video for “Wasteoid,” a second catchy single with fun surf-rock riffs and dynamic saxophone solos. Shot throughout Northern California, it features an Elvis impersonator driving around in a classic pink Cadillac and busting some old school dance moves in a bedazzled white jumpsuit — a gloriously tacky scene. The King is the perfect match for such a feel-good rock n’ roll vibes.

Slime - “Hotdog” (Official Video)

The video for Slime’s smooth new track “Hotdog” takes a more literal interpretation than I expected, in so much as it follows around a man dressed in a giant an oddly realistic hot dog suit. It only gets weirder from there, as director Daniel Brereton follows the hot dog man as he wanders pensively around the British countryside, looking as sad and lonely as the song feels.
