Torres - “Sprinter” (Official Video)

Both of Torres’ videos for her Sprinter singles — “Strange Hellos” and, now, the title track — have dealt with a dark mysticism. The first was filled with chilling occult-related imagery, while this one focuses more on the ecclesiastical. The fixation makes sense given the lyrical content of her new album, which largely deals with her upbringing in the Christian faith and her subsequent doubt. Here, Mackenzie Scott’s face is squeezed between the lens, scratched off in a liquified shimmer, her body poised in a stark silhouette with her hands outreached towards the sky. The video never stays on one image long enough to really get your bearings, but it gets the point across powerfully enough.
