Manfred is an animated short that I made for my graduation project for my Bachelor of Art & Technology, as part of my 3D computer animation and visual effects studies at the Utrecht school of the Arts. Manfred is the eponymous character in a concept for an animation series of the same name. Each episode features Manfred experiencing an everyday frustration and how he deals with it.

With this film I not only wanted to make a humorous character-based animation but also tried to showcase my knowledge of Maya (modeling, texturing, rigging, lighting, rendering), compositing in nuke, and my ability as a designer to bridge the gap between 2D and 3D animation design. I hope you’ll enjoy the animation.

At the moment I’m available for freelance work and always on the lookout for interesting jobs.

Manfred is selected for the 2010 Children’s film festival ‘Cinekid’ in the category ‘Nederlands kort’, October 20-29.

Micro Stop Motion – “Dot.” For Nokia By Sumo Science At Aardman + Making Of

Professor Fletcher's invention of the CellScope, which is a Nokia device with a microscope attachment, was the inspiration for a teeny-tiny film created by Sumo Science at Aardman. It stars a 9mm girl called Dot as she struggles through a microscopic world. All the minuscule detail was shot using CellScope technology and a Nokia N8, with its 12 megapixel camera and Carl Zeiss optics.

Shadow Shadow Shade – White Horse

“White Horse” by Shadow Shadow Shade is a 3 part science-fiction music video saga, over 15 minutes long. If you want to skip ahead, song one starts at 3:45, song two, which was my favorite, starts at 6:00 and song three at 10:00. All in all, it’s an interesting concept that’s pretty well done. Directed by Michael Graham.

The PEN Story

This is the PEN Story in stop motion. We shot 60.000 pictures, developed 9.600 prints and shot over 1.800 pictures again. No post production! Thanks to all the stop motion artists who inspired us. We hope you enjoy :-)

Some of the comments we have read here suggest that we should mention the creator of "A wolf loves pork", Mr Taijin Takeuchi.

While we were looking for a way to realise a story describing "a journey through time" based on printed images, we were inspired by Mr Takeuchi's brilliant work. For this reason we intentionally quoted his work in our little movie while showing full respect to his original idea. We didnt mention his name because we did not want to do so without his prior agreement.

However after considering some of the comments posted here we have decided to add credits to him and his work, which we obviously absolutely love.

Twitter: discover what's new in your world

The new Twitter.com is coming soon to all users! Twitter is the best way to discover what's new in your world. From football to film to philanthropy, people are using Twitter to discover what's new about what they find interesting.

Twitter has always been about getting a lot in a little. The constraint of 140 characters drives conciseness and lets you quickly discover and share what's happening. Yet, we've learned something since starting Twitter—life doesn't always fit into 140 characters or less.

Introducing a new, re-engineered Twitter.com that provides an easier, faster, and richer experience.

On the site, you'll see the familiar timeline, yet underneath each Tweet is a handful of information, deeper context and even embedded media. Simply click on an individual Tweet and a details pane slides out on the right and reveals this content.

Making Future Magic: iPad light painting

This film explores playful uses for the increasingly ubiquitous ‘glowing rectangles’ that inhabit the world.

We use photographic and animation techniques that were developed to draw moving 3-dimensional typography and objects with an iPad. In dark environments, we play movies on the surface of the iPad that extrude 3-d light forms as they move through the exposure. Multiple exposures with slightly different movies make up the stop-frame animation.

Ordæmonium

Having spent the last semester at the RCA working on this (very) short film I am happily posting it online now. I tried not to pre-plan and to have this this project as an experiment to see what happens if I let my unconscious unravel itself. I had a basic idea, the tangled spaghetti in the plate, and a hidden narrative emerged around this image with a perhaps alcoholic father and a child who is tangled between chaos and order.

Ordaemnium probably falls short sense and filmic punctuation but still, it was an enjoyable process and I benefited from making this short. Enjoy?

My Dog Tulip - Trailer HD

The distinguished British man of letters, Ackerley hardly thought of himself as a dog lover when, well into middle age, he came to adopt Tulip - a beautiful, yet intolerable 18-month-old German shepherd. To his surprise, she turned out to be the love of his life, the "ideal friend" he had been searching for in vain for so many years. In vivid and sometimes startling detail, the film reveals Tulip's sassy, often erratic behavior (and very canine tastes) and Ackerley's fumbling but determined efforts to ensure an existence of perfect happiness for her.

Paper sculpture

Chiral | Projection & Paper sculpture | Taiwan/Germany 2010

Projection & Paper Sculpture: Robert Seidel
Soundtrack: Richard Eigner

Chirality is a scientific term describing a structure that is not identical to its mirror image. “Chiral” collects cinematic etudes, which develop various conceptual approaches in order to expand the two-dimensional image into space. They are projected onto a sculpture (510 x 260 x 370 cm) and a screen (250 x 200 cm) made from handmade Taiwanese paper and develop very different lives on these configurations of the same material.

The amalgamation of volumetric lights sets ideas from Chinese calligraphy into motion and melts them with influences from European Art Informel as well as impasto painting to an abstract-organic sculpture. The installation is completed by a soundtrack by Austrian composer Richard Eigner (www.ritornell.at). With the premiere in MOCA Taipei the first iteration of the long-term project was presented…

Premiered at Tripolar Exhibition - 3 Positions of German Video Art
