Linkin Park - The Catalyst (New Video 2010)

Faithless "Tweak Your Nipple"

Video for “Tweak Your Nipple” from Faithless. Faithless liked their video for “Not Going Home” so much that they had the directors, MIE Studio, make this video in the same style. Cool song and video, if not a somewhat sensitive subject.

Augmented City 3D

by Keiichi Matsuda

The architecture of the contemporary city is no longer simply about the physical space of buildings and landscape, more and more it is about the synthetic spaces created by the digital information that we collect, consume and organise; an immersive interface may become as much part of the world we inhabit as the buildings around us.

Augmented Reality (AR) is an emerging technology defined by its ability to overlay physical space with information. It is part of a paradigm shift that succeeds Virtual Reality; instead of disembodied occupation of virtual worlds, the physical and virtual are seen together as a contiguous, layered and dynamic whole. It may lead to a world where media is indistinguishable from 'reality'. The spatial organisation of data has important implications for architecture, as we re-evaluate the city as an immersive human-computer interface.

MGMT - Congratulations

You're never going to believe this, but the new MGMT video is pretty weird! The clip for "Congratulations" finds the boys wandering through the desert, watching in horror as their adorable beaked camel-monster buddy gradually loses limbs and falls to pieces. If you have a ton of affection for cute, rubbery Star Wars-looking critters, you may want to sit this one out. For everyone else, prepare yourself for a particularly freaky bum-out below, via Pedestrian.tv.

Hat, Max & Laura Braun

The song HAT by Max and Laura Braun presents an enigmatic story of love, discovery and loss, a sense of home and growing up. Foresaking linearity and coherence, a narrative is conveyed through fleeting glimpses, allowing a subtle landscape of emotion and memory to emerge, its contours defined by thick, soft lines.
This dreamlike style is continued throughout the video made by director Michael Fragstein. Hand painted sequences unfolding in an empty space accompany the song’s lyrics. Replete with ambiguity and symbolism, these images appear, merge and fade. An ongoing chain of events reveals an infinite number of ties between the protagonists, while leaving room for interpretation and a space for the audience to reflect.

WORDS

The folks over at Everynone just released a new addition to their series of shorts in collaboration with NPR & WNYC’s Radiolab – an evocative interpretation of communication which explores the role that language plays in our perception and understanding of the world: WORDS.

As a “bonus video” to reflect Radiolab’s recent subject matter of the same title, Everynone composed an extremely heartfelt visual array…a menagerie of everyday snapshots reflecting the human condition, presented symbiotically through masterful editing and an empathetic score. Each image runs beautifully into one another creating a warm lyricism that not only pays tribute to the minutia of our daily lives, but weaves together a story that represents our society as a whole, tangential only through our assigned definitions of each part. "Despair" starring Bryce Dallas Howard

Photographer Alex Prager Turns Director With This 50s Chiller.

The setting: 1960s Los Angeles. Inside a phone booth stands a beautiful woman wearing the portentous femme fatale uniform of red lipstick and high heels. Bright and eerie, it's picture-perfection. In her first short film, LA-based photographer Alex Prager is going for pure, cinematic melodrama, hoping to catch just one emotion—despair—through her chilling juxtaposition of dreamy Americana aesthetics and back-story brimming with overstated tragedy. Set to a score by composer Ali Helnwein and starring model and actress Bryce Dallas Howard, the film takes its cues from the opening of Charles Laughton's Night of the Hunter (1955), and the Hans Christian Andersen-inspired 1948 ballet The Red Shoes. According to Prager, Despair was conceived as a living, full-sensory version of her photographic work, which has previously been exhibited at M+B Gallery in Los Angeles, Yancey Richardson in New York and Michael Hoppen in London. "I'd like to show the before, now and after of one of my images----that's really the concept of the film," she says. Accustomed to running a one-woman show on her shoots, where she usually plays photographer, stylist, set-designer and everything in between, Prager was ensnared by the collaborative nature of creating a film. "It's like taking every art medium and melding it into one," she says. "It's incredible!" As for working with Howard, a fast-rising talent (and the daughter of director Ron Howard) best known for her performances in M. Night Shyamalan's The Village and Lady in the Water, Prager credits fate for bringing them together. She knew it could be no one but the fair-skinned beauty after deciding the role called for a redhead with serious acting chops. Howard's graceful, porcelain-like look seems to embody one of Prager's defining characteristics as an artist—her unabashed love for, and understanding of, color. As for suspense: one of the stills from the four-minute film is headed to the prestiguous MoMA this September for the group show New Photography 2010, where Prager is exhibiting alongside Elad Lassry, Roe Ethridge and Amanda Ross-Ho. Film stills from Despair are currently being exhibited and sold exclusively by Michael Hoppen Contemporary in London.

Yan City: The Past Meets the Future

Yan City: Yan Yu Chun Qiu Feature

Yan City is a beautiful, ancient city in China. It is steeped in mythology and has a long and rich history. It is a place that is other-worldly, with a sense of mystery, harmony and tranquillity.

With the opening of the impressive Yan City museum, Spinifex was commissioned to create an epic video piece depicting the history of this ancient place.

The video coincides with continuing efforts to build a strong brand and attraction for Yan City. It is played out in a permanent, nightly show to entertain an audience of up to 300 people at one time during a 40 to 60 minute show.

The AV content involved in this show appears on three main surfaces:
- The wall of the museum – approximately 200-250 metres wide
- A large invisible scrim – approximately 75-100 metres wide
- A Water Screen – approximately 40-50 metres

DiRT 3 - Trailer

This is the Marketing Trailer we produced at RealtimeUK for the new "DiRT 3" game from Codemasters.

The movie is one continuous piece of car physics, on one continuous camera.

It was a challenge producing an animatic that was hand animated and trying to conform physics to those cameras and timings. We ended up having to increase the timings on some sections and shorten them on others, as the car physics ran at different speeds to the animatic.

The other challenge was getting all of the environments to seamlessly match up using the same car pass and cameras.

The job was completed using 3dsmax and Vray, then composited in AfterFX.

On and off, it took about 6 Artists approximately 3months to complete.

I was the Lead Artist on the job. I produced some of the animatic, cleaned and animated the car physics (supplied by codemasters), and completed the lighting, compositing and rendering for the movie.
