Modeselektor – “Shipwreck” (Feat. Thom Yorke)

German production duo Modeselektor and Thom Yorke collaborated on a pair of tracks a little while back, and now “Shipwreck” has gotten a video, which features a kid with some pretty eerie, spectral capacities. Could be a good last-minute Halloween idea, provided that all of your friends hang around the Internet late on Friday afternoons and enjoy extremely specific and topical references. Tony T. Datis directs.

Watch the First New "Beavis and Butt-head" Episode in 14 Years

Huh-huh. Last night saw the return of MTV's gloriously lewd animated series "Beavis and Butt-head". The episode, "Werewolves of Highland", marked the start of the Mike Judge-created series' ninth season, and the first new episode since the show stopped airing in 1997.

The series picks up with the same dry crudeness that its original run encompassed, but adjusted for 2011-era references. Last night's episode, for instance, finds Beavis and Butt-head watching Joanna Newsom in MGMT's "Kids" video, and commenting on a Skrillex video. They also watch one of the Twilight films, then decide to become vampires and werewolves to woo women. The show airs on MTV.

The Soft Moon - "Total Decay"

The video for the Soft Moon’s excellent “Total Decay” pins Luis Vasquez’s minimalist visual aesthetic to his spectral, Factory-styled post-punk clamor. It’s clenched up with claustrophobic tension and yet echoes with space and chilly breath, which is a neat trick. The video is black and white and rippling with ghoulish traces of faces and other such business, and as such it should be projected on a loop at your goth-inspired Halloween party this weekend. Fantastic/phantasmic.

Pepper Rabbit – “Murder Room”

The dudes from Pepper Rabbit set up a pretty unconventional taxidermy shop in the clip for “Murder Room.” Most macabre Etsy ever? This would be a Quit Your Day Job home run if it were real.

Architecture In Helsinki – “W.O.W.”

“W.O.W.,” the new video from Aussie indie-poppers Architecture In Helsinki, follows frontman Cameron Bird as he wakes up in the morning, makes a bunch of weird field recordings, and then communes with an incredibly fake-looking dolphin puppet. From what I understand, this is just a typical day in Melbourne.

R.E.M. – “We All Go Back To Where We Belong” (Feat. Kirsten Dunst & John Giorno)

R.E.M.’s greatest-hits collection Part Lies, Part Heart, Part Truth, Part Garbage 1982- 2011 arrives next month, and it features the new single “We All Go Back To Where We Belong,” which the band recorded just before breaking up. The band has now posted two videos (or, in their parlance, “short films”) for the song.

Both videos are close-up black-and-white unbroken shots of their subjects, who sit there making facial expression that convey some sort of feeling or other. One has movie star Kirsten Dunst, and the other features veteran artist and poet John Giorno. Dunst swings back and forth between smiling and looking sad, and Giorno mostly keeps the same frozen, vacant stare throughout. Michael Stipe and Dominic DeJoseph direct.

Beyoncé – “Party” (Feat. J. Cole)

In some sort of historically massive downgrade, the video for “Party,” the Prince-funk jam from Beyoncé’s album 4, replaces the great Andre 3000 guest appearance of the album version with an absolutely nothing verse from new guy J. Cole. No matter. Beyoncé continues to make great, sparkly videos. This one takes place almost entirely at a trailer-park party, and it makes that look like an improbably joyous place to be. Beyoncé’s old Destiny’s Child sidekick Kelly Rowland shows up for a cameo, and it’s fun to see those two together again. Her sister Solange also plays a DJ. Beyoncé and Alan Ferguson direct.

Jessica 6 – “Prisoner Of Love” (Feat. Antony)

Nomi Ruiz, leader of New York disco-house crew Jessica 6, did a ton of singing on Hercules And Love Affair’s self-titled debut album. So did Antony Hegarty. So it’s only right that the two have teamed up again for a sort of Andy Butler-free Herc reunion, on Jessica 6′s single “Prisoner Of Love.” The video, directed by Marco Ovando, mostly gives Ruiz a chance to show off how hot she is.

Soulwax - "Machine" Trailer (NSFW)

Saam is back with ‘Machine’ for Belgian electronic pioneers Soulwax. Creating a truly unique interpretation of the ethos behind the audio-visual-obsessional-onslaught that is the Radio Soulwax App. This is a definite NSFW.

Definitely very sexy, and extraordinarily well executed, it’s admirable to see a director that’s pushing the personal work and promos harder and harder. Whether the full ‘journey’ of the melted vinyl is taking the limits of taste a bit too far is really down to personal discretion, but when jumping on projects like this, and working without boundaries, it’s great to see someone bold enough to create films at this level that test the limits.

Man Man - "Piranhas Club"

In the adorably awesome video for Man Man’s “Pirhanas Club,” a little kid responds to the beer-throwing dipshits in his neighborhood by taking inspiration from the great John Waters movie Cry-Baby and forming his own mob of little-kid greasers. They shoplift, they trash cars, they poke a dead cat with sticks, and they finally get revenge on the one kid’s tormentors. It’s pretty amazing. If the sight of a baby two-wheeler rockabilly gang doesn’t make your heart sing, we probably weren’t meant to be friends.

Memory Tapes – “Offers”

The new video for “Offers,” a track from bedroom synthpop producer Memory Tapes, follows two ballet dancers and one girl who looks vaguely uneasy while walking around outside. I have no idea what it means, if anything. Andrew de Freitas directs.

There is also an animated piece of frozen pizza.

Duck Sauce – “Big Bad Wolf” Video (NSFW)

It’s impossible to describe Keith Schofield‘s drop-dead amazing video for Duck Sauce’s dance jam “Big Bad Wolf” without giving away some very funny things that I don’t want to give away, so I’ll just say a couple of things. First off: This is NSFW as fuck, and it may make you feel just slightly queasy. Second off: A-Trak and Armand Van Helden may have just found the roles they were born to play. Watch it below. Seriously. Do it.

"Big Bad Wolf" "is pretty simple, and it can mean anything, really, so we wanted the video to have its own narrative," says A-Trak, one-half of the dance duo Duck Sauce, along with DJ Armand Van Helden. "Remember when dance music videos used to actually be creative? Like when you think back to Aphex Twin, Fatboy Slim and Daft Punk… I don't know why the genre's videos became so generic in recent years.

"When Keith [Schoffield] came up with this idea of 'crotchfaces,' we just thought it was hilarious," A-Trak continues. "He started coming up with all these gags and describing the characters living in this sort of parallel world, and we were sold. He wasn't sure if we'd be down to play the leads, but our take on this was, if we're going to do this, we need to go all the way. So we played the dickheads, essentially."

Friends - I'm His Girl

Directed by Samantha Urbani and Aurora Halal
Additional Creative Direction by Nikki Shapiro
Super 8 Camera DP by William Hereford and Rand Rosenberg

Commenter Brandoch Daha called this one both “intensely annoying” and “pretty good.” I’m pretty sure I like it a whole lot more than he does, but yeah, I get it. The whole video is unapologetically steeped in signifiers of retro downtown hipster cool, starting with that opening shot of a Neneh Cherry Raw Like Sushi cassette lying right next to a ghetto blaster. And yes, star and co-director Samantha Urbani does spend a good chunk of the video carrying the ghetto blaster around on her shoulder in an entirely unnatural manner. Like Kreayshawn’s much-discussed “Gucci Gucci,” the clip radiates a dangerous level of cool-kid self-satisfaction. But like that Kreayshawn video, it also has a blase energy that makes it a whole lot of fun — not in spite of its annoyingness, but because of it, if that makes any sense at all. It has the courage of its convictions.

Rihanna on WhoSay

The video for Rihanna’s new ’90s-house-throwback single “We Found Love” plays like Requiem For A Dream or Trainspotting or any of these other drug movies that starts out exhilarating and turns horrific, except that the exhilarating parts are still kind of horrific and the horrific parts are still kind of exhilarating. The Stephen Malkmus And The Jicks song “Senator” has a video now, and it’s a doozy. This is the unedited explicit version of the Shady Records 2.0 Boys 2011 Cypher. Yelawolf, Slaughterhouse and Eminem over "Tried By 12" provided by DJ Premier. Filmed on location in Detroit, MI, USA.

I told you guys: Dudes rapping in warehouses. It always gets me. The best reason to watch the BET Hip-Hop Awards every year is the great Cypher tradition, in which the channel throws together a bunch of random-ass rappers and has them rap as hard as possible. Many of this year’s cyphers were too random (Lady Of Rage and Blind Fury? Whuh?) and we didn’t get anything as transcendent as the 2008 Jadakiss/Fabolous/Juelz Santana/Ace Hood throwdown. But it sure was fun to watch Em and his latest roster of charges go all punchliney over the classic East Flatbush Project “Tried By 12″ beat. Hi Rihanna.

Beyoncé - "Love on Top"

Only two weeks after Beyoncé gave us the video for "Countdown", the clip for "Love on Top"-- also off her latest album 4-- is here.

The video for "Countdown" raised accusations that Beyoncé had ripped off dance moves and set elements from Belgian choreographer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker. The "Love on Top" video is reminiscent of New Edition's 1988 "If It Isn't Love". Perhaps to preempt further criticism and plagiarism accusations, Beyoncé posted the following statement on her website along with the video, which she premiered in Australia:

"I have worked very hard on this video, this song is special to me and I had an idea for the video based on some of my favorite male groups. I remember seeing videos from New Edition, The Jackson 5 and the Temptations, bands I love for their beautiful harmonies, and precise choreography and I always wanted to make a video and be part of a boy group myself. It was so much fun."

Stopover

An unplanned pit stop for a solitary spaceman turns into a close encounter of the third kind.

The amount of blood, sweat, and tears that went into Neil Stubbings’, of LeMob, “Stopover” must have made it one sloppily wet studio to walk into. He single handedly wrote, designed, animated, and directed the charming short pretty much all on his own. The story follows a dimwitted human as he stops on an alien planet to take a leak. Hilarity ensues.

Also, Adams, in true fucking-around fashion, has decided to introduce the video via a perfectly ridiculous black metal-themed parody talk show called Night Sweats. It is stonertastic, and we’ve got it, as well as the “Lucky Now” video.

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds – AKA…What A Life! (Feat. Russell Brand)

Noel Gallagher has debuted the video for his single 'AKA…What A Life!', which features a starring role for Russell Brand.

The video, which is over eight minutes long, begins in a similar setting to the former Oasis man's promo for 'The Death Of You And Me', with the waitress who featured in that video entering a wagon. She then meets Brand, who is dressed in a top hat, leather trousers and a necklace made out of bones. He then force-feeds the terrified girl a magic potion.

Before force-feeding her the potion, he tells her: "Once you've taken a sip of this splendid brew – it smells quite delicious – the world will never look the same again." She refuses, so with the help of his two nieces, he makes her swallow some of the potion.

She then passes out and Brand is seen giving a photo of the waitress to his nieces and telling them to find her. The two girls hijack a car, find the waitress and bundle her into the boot before picking up Noel Gallagher, who is hitchhiking.

And the circle of relatively rehabilitated countrymen is now complete.

Junior Boys - Banana Ripple

Banana Ripple,” the nine-minute polite-disco odyssey from the Junior Boys It’s All True album, now has a video. For whatever reason, much of it consists of shots of things being projected on big blocks of ice and extreme, intense close-ups of architects’ fingers. Rollo Jackson directs.

Beyoncé – “Countdown”

The day has finally come. Beyoncé’s video for the best song on her sterling 4, and maybe even the best song of the whole damn year, has arrived after a torturous web-clock countdown (to “Countdown.” Fun!). Judging by the teaser they put out last week, it has potential to be the most electric Beyoncé video since the immortal classic “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)” video. Deep breath. Let’s do this together.

The clip was directed by Adria Petty, who is — yep — Tom Petty’s daughter.

Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog is a 2008 musical tragicomedy miniseries in three acts, produced exclusively for Internet distribution. Filmed and set in Los Angeles, the show tells the story of Dr. Horrible (played by Neil Patrick Harris), an aspiring supervillain; Captain Hammer (Nathan Fillion), his nemesis; and Penny (Felicia Day), their shared love interest.

The movie was written by writer/director Joss Whedon, his brothers Zack Whedon (a television writer) and Jed Whedon (a composer), and actress Maurissa Tancharoen.

Weetabix - "Dancer"

A cute, little girl takes a bite of her Weetabix breakfast. That’s the usual cue to dive into the bowl for a cereal-inspired world of animation for twenty seconds before zooming out to a smiling family and an endtag.

How about, instead, the girl gets out of her chair and takes us on an acid trip dance party with rimlit breaking bears. Yes?

Who is having more fun than DANIELS? No one.

We made a commercial for Weetabix Chocolate Spoonsize.

Starring the amazing Arizona Snow. And some bears.

Super Mario Bros. Recreated In A Cardboard Box

This is side-scrolling done right, ladies and gamers. Simple graphics, instant enjoyment, and not much of a learning curve is the classic formula for success. (see Angry Birds and Lemmings) But this time it’s done in real life — well, in a cardboard box at least.

Open the box and the game starts. A little knob on the right side allows Mario to jump over Goombas and other obstacles mounted with magnetic tape as he progresses through the world at an ever-increasing speed. If Mario happens to miss his mark and pass over one of these magnetic areas, our hero essentially dies and the game resets. Awesome.

Bunraku Opening Sequence

For the opening title sequence of Guy Moshe’s film ‘Bunraku’, Guilherme Marcondes introduces us to the Bunraku alternate universe – from pre-historic animals fighting for survival to its present-day third world war. It’s got a lovely mixed-media style, including the puppeteering technique explored earlier in his short film Tyger. The title sequence was entirely fabricated and shot at the Hornet Workshop.

Pac-Man: The Musical

Everything about this short film by Random Encounters is great: the claymation, the sound effects, and most of all, the lyrics. I used to be sympathetic to the ghosts. But now, not so much. They get what’s coming to them.

Florence + The Machine - Shake It Out

In the video for Florence & The Machine’s monster new single “Shake It Out,” Florence Welch gets either drugged or just drunk at an ornate costume party. She also dances the way some of my relatives do when they get smashed at weddings. This video is cool, but the song actually deserves a video more theatrical than the one at the ornate costume party. Florence should be flying a flaming winged motorcycle through the center of the earth in this thing. Check it out below.

Trash Talk – “Burn Alive”

We’ve already posted one excellent video from Awake, the new EP from Sacramento hardcore brutalists Trash Talk, and now here’s another one. For the two-minute ripper “Burn Alive,” directors High 5 Collective have put together some fucking intense (and probably NSFW) visuals that immediately evoke the clashes between New York police and Occupy Wall Street protesters, just as the ink on the news stories is drying.

Zola Jesus – “Vessel”

With the “dope-as-fuck” (per Tom) Conatus dropping tomorrow, what better to start out Zola Jesus coronation week than with an eerie, hypnotic video from that LP? Watch the clip for “Vessel,” directed by Jacqueline Castel, at The New York Times‘ website.

"Weird Al" Yankovic - Stop Forwarding That Crap To Me

Music video by 'Weird Al' Yankovic performing Stop Forwarding That Crap To Me.

Our own Koos Dekker was busy with a kinetic typography music video for "Weird Al" Yankovic. "Stop Forwarding That Crap to Me", a part of his new album Alpocalypse, is a "diatribe against sending the narrator useless junk emails". The song got a special treatment with subtle irony, intense visuals and rich color schemes.

John Kricfalusi's Couch Gag for The Simpsons

John Kricfalusi, the animator for the legendary Ren & Stimpy Show, got a chance to direct the couch gag for last night’s episode of The Simpsons. Kricfalusi is not one to hold back his creative vision, even for a children’s show (Nickelodeon ultimately fired him). His work in this short is deliciously weird and psychedelic.

Fucked Up - "Do You Feed"

Earlier this year, around the same time they released their massive rock opera David Comes To Life, Fucked Up also dropped a companion piece called David’s Town, a fake compilation in which the band portrayed a number of different era-specific fictional British punk bands. One of those tracks, “Do You Feed” (credited to fake band Animal Man) now has a video, in which Fucked Up guitarist Ben Cook tries out his British accent and goes on a date with Fucked Up bassist Sandy Miranda. It’s really cute! Lance Ludwig directs.

Ty Segall – “Goodbye Bread” (NSFW)

Your Halloween party will almost certainly not turn out as well as the one in this video. In the “Goodbye Bread” clip, the young Bay Area human garage-rock factory Segall sits, looking sleepy and vaguely bored, while a monster of a costume party rages around him. A topless chick in leopard-print body-paint stands behind him, remaining almost motionless the whole time, which makes this video both vaguely NSFW and kind of hilarious. Matt Yoka directs.

T-Pain - 5 O'Clock ft. Wiz Khalifa, Lily Allen

Music video by T-Pain Featuring Wiz Khalifa & Lily Allen performing 5 O'Clock.

The latest single from robo-R&B star T-Pain features a slightly unlikely sample: Lily Allen’s It’s Not Me, It’s You track “Who’d Have Known.” In fact, the song samples her so heavily that she gets a “featuring” credit on it. T-Pain practically spends the entire song singing along with her song, so it’s only fair. Sadly, Lily does not show up in the video for the song, which instead features T-Pain wandering around what appears to be Amsterdam while some barely-seen girl lip-syncs Lily’s lyrics. We do, however, get to see Wiz Khalifa busting a guest verse and wearing the worst sweater in the history of sweaters. So there’s that.

Drake – “Headlines”

Drizzy reps Toronto in his new clip for “Headlines,” where he holds court at the Rogers Centre and at a long conference table replete with stogies and sweaters.

Deerhoof – “Secret Mobilization”

Deerhoof’s cinematic new video for the Deerhoof Vs. Evil track “Secret Mobilization” revolves around the eternal struggle between cute girls and disgusting-looking alien beasts. It involves a Volvo, a dart gun, and a desert landscape, and to say any more would be to give to much away. Ewan MacLeod directs, and I have to say, he does a good job. Watch it below.

Kvelertak - "Blodtørst"

Adele - Someone Like You

Music video by Adele "Someone Like You" - Dir: Jake Nava

Adele’s “Someone Like You” is my shit – a gigantic, stormy ballad in which the young singer reveals the full operational power of her voice and, at the same time, navigates the interpersonal dynamics of a bad breakup with grace and maturity. It’s really something. And as a recent Village Voice piece points out, it’s also the first ballad to ascend to #1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in a long time. Even more impressive: It did this without the help of a music video.

For some reason, though, we suddenly have a video now. It’s a nicely show grainy black-and-white clip, with most of it consisting of a single shot of Adele walking around Paris and looking sad. And it does its job by placing the focus on the song, where it belongs.

Rat Vs Possum - “Fat Monk”

Rat Vs Possum - “Fat Monk” (director: Lucy McRae)

Body architect Lucy McRae makes her debut as a director with this kaleidoscopic dance clip for Australian synth-pop outfit Rat Vs Possum.

Lucy developed a summer school concept alongside Melbourne’s RMIT University working with their architecture, fashion, media and interior design students. This pioneering framework aims to unite students with brands and the music industry giving them the opportunity to work directly with industry professionals on a real project. She approached Rat Vs Possum to see if they would be interested in Lucy and twenty of the University’s top design talent to unite forces and facilities in an intense three week production.

Lucy is currently in discussion with institutions across the globe to replicate this framework that offers a fresh and pragmatic strategy that summons a new direction in creative education, beckoning what is tipped to become the ‘Lucy McRae School’.

Rat Vs Possum’s Let Music and Bodies Unite is a dance-inspired party album with a music video to match! Trained as a classical ballerina and renowned as a pedigree artist Lucy creates her very own Rock Eistedford! (an Australian nationwide competition for music, dance and drama school students).

Lead vocalist Daphne Shum takes us on her journey through her two disparate worlds; whimsical dance choreographies that reference synchronised swimming and a high school science lab are some of the scenes in this fun, theatrical, orchestrated puppet show. These two realities are united by the metallic clad vocalist, Daphne driving these kaleidoscopic worlds. Acclaimed video artist Kit Webster re-projects looped footage back into these worlds to add a synth-pop undertone which perfectly befits the feel of this album.
