MC Daveed Diggs of clipping. spits fire so quickly that his words could narrate panicked seconds before a life-line goes flat. Listening to the Los Angeles group’s self-titled debut is an experiment in listening comprehension, and trying to cling to each word that trickles out of Diggs’ mouth is a both futile and totally unnecessary. It’s impressive enough that those are crystalline phrases and not just jumbled half-rendered fragments; you don’t always need a full-picture. It’s fitting, then, that clipping.’s video for their record’s opening track “Intro” zooms in on Diggs’ mouth as it declaims each verse before reformatting into bits of scattered footage.
