Samuel Eastgate aka Sam Dust began putting out solo music under the
name LA Priest in 2007, around the peak of his time as the front man for
Late Of The Pier, the popular British electro-quartet. Last week
Eastgate put out his second solo record, Inji, his first in
eight years. During that hiatus, Eastgate was supposedly traveling the
world, doing scientific research, and creating new inventions. A video
for the funky gem “Learning To Love” is now up on a site presumably hosted by Eastgate that mimics the TED Talks website
almost exactly, replacing TED’s “2000+ talks to stir your curiosity”
tagline with “Media to engage your synergies.” The LA Priest site even
has the same search features as TED: topics, languages, and duration,
the LA Priest “topics” being each track name off Inji. Filmed by Eastgate’s brother Isaac Eastgate (who also directed the video for “Oino“),
“Learning To Love” was filmed in rural north Wales where Eastgate
currently resides. The video for “Learning To Love” may not be as
inspirational as a TED Talk, but it’s just as entertaining, mostly
because of the scrappy white dog that accompanies Eastgate throughout
the whole thing.
