Jenny Hval’s newest album, Apocalypse, girl,
is as rooted in performance as it is sonic ingenuity. Her music
disorients listeners and asks questions of them, and in “Take Care Of
Yourself,” those questions are prickly and not easily answered. Like in
the video for “Sabbath,”
the Miles Joris-Peyrafitte-directed short for “Take Care Of Yourself”
features Hval herself performing in some capacity while wearing one of
her signature wigs. She’s the kind of artist that you want to consume
every facet of, and in return, she’ll do the same to you with her
confounding, pointed prose.
