In theory, Pinkshinyultrablast’s must isn’t that off-putting
— they’re on the loud side, sure, but the Russian quintet always have
enough pleasing melodies peeking out from under the surface to suck the
right person in. But, of course, the average person doesn’t listen to
this kind of dense rock all the time, and I could understand how one
could be taken aback. On top of that, a lot of their songs take their time — their latest, the one-off single “Kiddy Pool Dreams,” clocks in at a sprawling six minutes. Not that long, but longer than what you would typically hear on the radio.
All of the above are the kinds of comments you’ll hear in the new
video for the track. The band took around a pair of headphones and asked
people on the street to listen to the song in full. Among the ambient
background noise, we see everyone’s reaction as it happens: People
complain about the loudness, some of them are into it, one says that
“nobody makes tracks this long nowadays.” It’s criticism in real-time,
and it’s a delight to watch. At the end, an old guy checks: “It’s not
yours, is it?” before weighing in: “A lot of energy, no soul.” Judge for
yourself —
