On their new album The L-Shaped Man, the great California
hardcore band Ceremony leave hardcore behind entirely, replacing it with
dark and heavy Joy Division-style postpunk. We’ve already heard “The Separation” and “The Understanding,” and now the band has shared the video for another new song, the driving and flinty “Your Life In France.” Dustin Aksland directed the scratchy, noirish black-and-white video, in which band
frontman Ross Farrar broodingly chain-smokes in his apartment and
wanders abandoned nighttime city streets alone.
