The young Atlanta rap trio Migos are the rare rap group who can
maintain a giddy energy over a six-and-a-half-minute song, and the title
of “Cross The Country,” the opening track from the group’s great new Rich Nigga Timeline
mixtape, turns out to be something of an understatement. The group
filmed the song’s FADER-produced new video while they were touring
Europe for the first time. Director and A$AP Rocky collaborator Shomi Patwary
films the group while they’re posing in front of various Paris
landmarks, buying vast quantities of weed in Amsterdam, and performing
in front of a club full of amped-up Europeans. The song’s springy energy
translates beautifully in the video, and it fits Patwary’s woozy,
quick-cutting style nicely. Also, I love how these guys all lip-sync
each other’s ad-libs.
