The last we heard from Los Angeles weird auteur Lawrence Rothman, he was “California Paranoia”
with Angel Olsen. As with that song, new single “Oz Vs. Eden” is
nothing to write home about musically speaking — some ghoulish rock with
demonic chants that’s apropos for the season, with Charli XCX providing
some “na na”s and backing vocals — but the visuals are impeccable. Once
again, Rothman worked with Floria Sigismondi on this one, and it’s set in a haunted house filled with all kinds of
unspeakable, excessively creepy horrors. Rothman plays one of his
alters, Kevin, and there’s also a pair of creepy siblings, a veiled old
man, a gold-plated angel, and more.
