Ever since Detroit rapper Young Roc crossed paths with “All Gold
Everything” hit-maker Trinidad James on Twitter, the two rappers have
teamed up on a number of tracks including “3AM Eastside.” Roc and Loonee
are responsible for the track’s moody molasses production, a skipping,
stuttering, nearly formless downtempo beat built around a pitched-down
vocal sample. Roc’s microphone presence here carries a whiff of Wiz
Khalifa as well as some Drake, which is a good match for this aesthetic.
Meanwhile, James’ swaggering presence makes for a sharp contrast
against all the blank space in the beat. It’s a compelling sound, and
director Vincent Lou° Film makes memorable use of some forestry and a
sleek woodland apartment in the video.
