Brisbane pop-rock singer Megan Washington — sometimes known as just Washington — will release her sophomore LP There There
this year, and “Limitless” is the project’s superb lead single. Helmed
by Sia/Adele producer Sam Dixon and featuring a band including
Warpaint’s Stella Mozgawa and Roxy Music’s Leo Abraham, the song
conjures ’80s New Romantic vibes better than most. It’s a rollicking
shuffle with playful horns on the fringe, yet the mood is closer to
“emotional crisis”; all that propulsive forward motion feels like
running away from something. In the video, though, Washington does a lot
of standing still. She stars in a one-shot elevator clip that’s all
about colorful lighting and the many complex expressions of a weary
human being.
