Last year, the gifted Chicago rapper Mick Jenkins broke through with the sharp, incisive mixtape The Water[s],
and everything he’s done since cements the idea that he’s someone
worthy of your attention. This week, Jenkins came back with a new single
called “P’s & Q’s,” in which he goes in hard over a track from the
Montreal dance producer Kaytranada, who also produced his 2014 single “Rain.”
And in director Nathan R. Smith’s excellent video, Jenkins struts in
slow-motion through some sort of party/riot hybrid. Smith filmed
everything in reverse to give it that alien dream-state feeling.
