The operatic “Some Winters” was our second taste of Weyes Blood’s upcoming The Innocents,
and now it’s the project’s first music video. Director Winston H Case
sets Natalie Merens in an old-fashioned home and mostly in the woods,
where she kicks it with her dog, builds a campfire, and plays piano
dramatically. Not much happens, but Merens has an arresting charisma,
and Case conjures an atmosphere that slides between tranquility and
foreboding. People throw around the word “haunting” a lot these days,
but this one really deserves that descriptor. It’s a truly beautiful
video.
