If you caught Liars on the tour for their recent album, MESS,
you know that despite the record’s freakish electronics and creepy
lyrics, the band sounded and looked like they were having more fun on
stage than they had in years. One of the best parts of those shows was
Angus Andrew’s thrashing, bizarro-frontman moves and expressions — the
guy practically turns whipping hair back and forth into some kind of
synesthetic experience. That’s given a full spotlight in Laurie Lynch’s
video for “I’m No Gold.” Via the strange, effects-laden performance from
Andrew, the clip captures all the eeriness, humor, and aggression that
have made Liars a staple for more than a decade.
