Before they exit stage left, Justin Vernon and Bon Iver have dropped the video for their Bon Iver closer, “Beth/Rest”. Directed by Vernon and Dan Huiting, and filmed in the same woods that surround the band’s studio, the celestial clip fully encapsulates the track’s elegiac qualities, focusing on alien-like tribesmen that glow no different than Jor-El of Krypton. Vernon, who based the clip on a treatment he wrote, explains, “It’s kind of about two people who are truly meant for each other and what happens to their essence. How they connect is some other thing that we don’t know how to really talk about.” Admittedly, it doesn’t come close to that ’80s-inspired video a year back, but it’s nice to finally see something substantial and official.
