Girls – “Honey Bunny”

The crowd at the 9:30 Club in D.C. last night pretty much went nuts for the opening surf-guitar sputter of Girls’ souped-up single “Honey Bunny,” a pretty clear sign that they’ve got another “Lust For Life” on their hands here. So it’s great to see that the band has a dizzy, fun, romantic new video for “Honey Bunny,” directed by Girls’ own J.R. White alongside Ivan Shumaker.

The clip starts out with frontman Christopher Owens wearing a belly-shirt sweater, driving a goddam Corvette, and doing his best impression of Michael Jackson in the video for “The Way You Make Me Feel” while he attempts to get an incredibly pretty girl (played by Owens’ real-life girlfriend, Dominant Legs’ Hannah Hunt) into said ride. And for the rest of the video, they go driving, shoot off highway flares, fly kites, and do all sorts of stuff that will make you not especially happy to be sitting inside on a rainy Tuesday morning. It’s a great video and an indication that White may be as good at directing music videos as he is at producing music.
