Dawn Richard rose to fame as part of Diddy’s reality TV creation
Danity Kane, and then his dance-rap group Diddy — Dirty Money, but now
she’s gone solo as D∆WN and is creating some textured, progressive
R&B on her own. In 2013 her album Goldenheart garnered a
fair amount of critical praise, but then we didn’t hear much until this
year. Now, D∆WN is in a prolific phase and working steadily toward
completing her album trilogy The Red Era. Goldenheart was the first installment of this, followed by Blackheart which was released earlier this year. She’s currently prepping the final release Redemptionheart, and to help tie this final record to Blackheart she’s released a double video via Spin combining a song from that record called “Billie Jean” with her new single “Dance.” She also recently contributed to the Adult Swim Singles Series called “Running From Sane.”
Watch the double video directed by Monty Marsh below. As a double video
should, it flits between everything from Dawn naked in rose petals, American Beauty style, to Dawn the dominatrix.
