Courtney Barnett is a singer-songwriter from Melbourne whose rambling, conversational lope-rock is just instantly appealing, and it’s tough to imagine a better introduction to her style than the swaggering storytelling ramble “Avant Gardener.” The new video doesn’t have much to do with the song’s narrative, but it’s a disarmingly shaggy story in its own right, with Barnett and her bandmates playing a laughably incompetent doubles tennis match.
